  • Hiking

The Transkei coastline is known for it’s rugged untouched beauty. Trained guides will take guests on a hike to the waterfalls, stopping at a local homestead for lunch, through to Luplatana and back. Longer hikes can be arranged with an overnight stop at Lambazi Lodge. Please enquire on email.

  • Birding

Lambazi Lodge is listed on The Birding Life directory. Visit the breathtaking vulture colony on the way to Msikaba, or a hike up to the waterfall will not disappoint our birders.

  • History

Take a guided tour to the Grosvenor wreck (4 August 1782) site and learn about the attempt at digging through rock for many years to discover the sought after treasure (cargo valued at £75,000).

  • Beach

The best part about Lambazi Lodge is that it is situated right on one of the most unspoilt beaches on the Wildcoast. The lagoon is perfect for kids to kayak, fish and swim. There are no shark nets but we haven’t had any incidents yet.

Fishing at Lambazi Lodge

Lambazi Lodge, situated in the northern Transkei, falls within the Port Grosvenor inshore controlled zone of the Pondoland Marine Protected Area.

Shore based line-fishing is allowed as well as the harvesting of invertebrates and shore-based spearfishing to a depth of 10m.

The use of drones for fishing purposes is strictly prohibited as is boat or paddle-ski based fishing.

The area is a rock and surf angler's paradise, with long stretches of pristine coastline providing opportunities to target a multitude of species from Shad, Bronze bream and Kob right through to large gamefish like Cape Yellowtail, GT's and King Mackerel.

There are also several deep water points in the area which are productive spots to target a variety of shark and ray species.

At Lambazi, we are passionate about conservation and considering the fact that our facility falls within a controlled zone of a marine protected area (MPA), we encourage catch and release fishing. While we agree that there is little better than a meal of fresh Shad or Bronze bream when on holiday in the Transkei, we request that you don't keep any of our resident reef associated species like Rock Cod and Black Mussel Cracker (Poenskop). We also request that you adhere to a slot limit on dusky Kob and only keep fish between 60cm-100cm.

  • Catch and Release

Port Grosvenor is a marine protected area (MPA). No drone fishing, ski boat or paddle ski fishing is allowed. Lambazi Lodge promote catch and release.

“The Wild coast brings a happy smile to the faces of those who are privileged to have experienced it's charisma...whether in memory, or real time, it overflows with joyous contentment, reflection, rugged grandeur, and so much soul food !”
